Welcome to Prometheus Rover Crew
The Prometheus Rover Crew is one of the official Rover Crews in the Tshwane South District for Scouts South Africa.
The Crew consists of leaders and Scouts 17 and older from a number of Troops in the Pretoria area. We also are expanding the reach of the World Scout Movement by drawing in young people who have no Scouting background so you do not have to have any Scouting background to become a Rover! If you are between the ages of 17 - 30 you can feel free to join the adventure!
On this page you will learn about how you can join the Crew, see what we get up to and when we are running activities. You can also get to know a little bit about our members by visiting our Facebook page. The page is easy to browse so take some time to acquaint yourself and feel free to contact us should you be interested in becoming part of the family.
We strive to encompass the credo of all sections of the movement by Doing our Best to Be Prepared for Service.
For more information regarding how to join or if you require a service of some sort please contact us through this website!
If you are new to the Scouting Movement and do not know what Rovering is all about please visit the What are Rovers? Page.

Why PROMETHEUS Rover Crew?
According to Greek Mythology, Prometheus (Greek: Προμηθεύς) is the Titan who is credited with stealing fire from the gods for human use, this in turn enabled progress and civilisation. He is known for his intelligence, and as a champion of mankind.
Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, punished Prometheus for the theft by sentencing the Titan to eternal torment for his transgression. Prometheus was bound to a rock, where each day an eagle was sent to feed on his liver, only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. In some stories, Prometheus is freed at last by the hero, Hercules.
In the Western classical tradition, Prometheus became a figure who represented human striving, particularly the quest for scientific knowledge.
The ancients believed that the name Prometheus derived from the Greek pro (before) + manthano (learn) and the agent suffix -eus, thus meaning "Forethinker".
In a similar way we believe that we as Rovers have a duty to the movement to provide Scouts and our community with knowledge in order to develop and progress either in advancement or in self-growth and sustainability.
The etymology of the name Prometheus also fits in with the Scout Motto Be Prepared...
